Synopsys by Ivan Bahrianyi
Ivan Bahrianyi (1906-1963; real name Lozoviagin) was a Ukrainian writer who suffered the brutality of Stalin’s repressions. The artist was imprisoned, exiled to the Far East, and then emigrated. The hero of The Tiger Catchers, a young Ukrainian aviation engineer, Hryhorii Mnohohohrishnyi, tortured, hungry, and sentenced to 25 years in prison, escaped on his way to a concentration camp in the middle of the harsh Siberian taiga. I read it for the second time. It’s a very pleasant, light book that makes you feel all the emotions and pain of Ukrainians of that time. It is written “deliciously” with very beautiful Ukrainian rescues and descriptions. I recommend it to everyone.

I first read Ivan Bahrianyi’s novel Tigrolovy back in high school, but I still remember the strong impressions it left behind.

At first glance, this book seems to be just an interesting story about the life, adventures, and love of Hryhoriy Mnohohryshnyi, who managed to escape from the “death echelon.” However, in reality, this story is about how many difficulties a person can endure if he or she wants to survive. “The Tiger Catchers glorifies the beauty of the soul and the willpower of a person who is able to survive literally “hell” and escape from the clutches of death.

I love this story, which makes you think about how strong a human being is, and that his life depends only on him. 5/5 from me!

Recently, I finally got to read this work by Ivan Bahrianyi, The Tiger Catcher. This story is completely unlike any other work of Ukrainian literature that I have read. The book is quite emotionally heavy, but that doesn’t make it any less interesting. The main theme of the novel is escape and building a new life outside the totalitarian system. A young aviation engineer, Hryhorii Mnohohohrishnyi, escapes from a train carrying prisoners to Siberia and ends up in the Taiga, where he meets the Sirko family, and then all the adventures begin. The story is simply extraordinary, it makes you really worry about the characters and rejoice in their success. I highly recommend it!

To begin with, it is worth noting the beautiful publication, the cover is a sight to behold.

The story of Hryhoriy Mnohohosgrishnyi is dynamic, insightful, despite its certain brutality. Ivan Bahrianyi was able to accurately create a story where terrible, tragic, difficult events are intertwined with real romance! I still can’t get over how he managed to escape from the train, the “echelon of death,” I had goosebumps at the moment when he committed the only sin… In fact, the work conveys significant moments that show how strong a person can be in spirit!

If at first you think that the work is difficult to read, then wait for a few more descriptions of the train, it will be worth it!
