This is a fascinating little book that is a mixture of genres: detective, psychological thriller, and family drama. The events of a past crime committed six years ago are reconstructed by a new psychiatrist, Theo, who has long been watching Alicia, a patient accused of murdering her husband, in absentia (from newspaper articles) and in reality. Theo is almost certain that Alicia is innocent, but immediately after the crime Alicia went silent, and none of the doctors or police have been able to interview Alicia in six years to find out what happened in her house then and who is responsible for the murder. Theo decides to get to know Alicia’s inner circle in order to gather information about her, learn more and try to guess the motives behind her crime and years of silence. Theo is an experienced psychiatrist, and he has phrases and actions in his arsenal that are sure to make Alicia talk.
Of course, the ending was shocking. But throughout the reading, it was extremely hard to learn details about Alicia’s childhood, her growing up, and her relationships with her immediate family. Of course, this is a prime example of a toxic relationship, and there was little chance for Alicia to remain mentally healthy.
A fascinating novel, packed with great psychological reflections.

A strange and interesting detective story with a mysterious crime. The reviews say that it has an unexpected ending, and while reading it, I kept trying on different characters for the role of the main criminal, but the real criminal was really the least expected person. The author puts considerable emphasis on human psychology, revealing the connection between past psychological traumas that people receive in childhood and problems in adulthood.
An experienced psychotherapist, Theo Faber, decides to take a job as a forensic psychotherapist in a closed hospital where criminals with mental disorders are kept. One of the patients there is a strange artist named Alice Berenson, who committed a crime six years ago (the murder of her husband), and since then has been so deeply involved in herself and her internal problems that she has stopped communicating with others. For six years, she hasn’t said a word. Theo is confident that he can get Alicia to tell him what really happened on the night of the murder and who the real killer is. However, the hospital staff is very specific (there are even people with whom Alicia was involved before the crime), but Theo believes that he can help Alicia, identify the causes of her mental trauma, and show the world the real culprit. But the result of his search will be a shock to everyone, even to Theo himself.

A tense thriller that keeps you in suspense until the very end of the book. What happened? Why did she do this? Why has she been silent for so many years? Will it be possible to talk to her? And at the end of the book, the “omagadoo” as it were. Shock.
On the other hand, there is a very self-confident psychotherapist who asks to treat her. Why does he want to do this so badly? Will he be able to talk to her and understand the reason for the murder? I want to finish the book as quickly as possible to find out the solution, which is already a plus for the book) If it’s addictive, it means it’s well written)
Although I love and read psychological thrillers, and it would seem that they are all written in the same way and script, it is so nice when you can surprise with the ending.

An incredible story about the artist Alicia Berenson and the psychologist Theo who decided to start working with her. At the beginning of the book, we are presented with the following picture: Alicia is found at a crime scene, but she does not speak. And immediately the reader begins to wonder: what should have happened to make Alicia decide to just shut up for several years?
The answers to all of our questions are found in Alicia’s last painting, Alquesta. The whole plot of the book is interesting and quite understandable, but we still don’t understand the motive for Alicia’s decision to kill her Gabriel. And was she the murderer at all, or was someone else present at the murder scene?
The ending of the book is truly unexpected. It’s astonishing. It would seem that throughout the story, the answer to questions like “who killed Gabriel?” and “why is Alicia silent” were right there on the surface. Right at the beginning of the book, we have all the clues we need to understand the essence of what happened. At the beginning of the story, we have certain hints that will later lead us and the main characters of this work to unravel these questions.
The book is really just incredible! I recommend it to all fans of the detective genre, because the end of the work will definitely surprise any reader.

This book has been on my wish list for a long time. A world bestseller, plus the movie rights were bought, of course, I couldn’t resist. And finally, the book fell into my hands.
A paper book! And in Ukrainian!
Yes, the plot really keeps you in suspense to the very end.
However, it seems to me that it will be quite easy for connoisseurs of this genre to solve the mystery and put together the puzzle (at least in the second half of the book you can already place your “bets”).
Personally, I missed the disclosure of the main character, Alicia. Instead, the character of Theo is revealed in a very meaningful way.
I’m probably not going to be original and admit that the ending impressed me.
I can safely recommend it to those who love detectives and psychological thrillers.
