The novel is based on the story of a seven-year-old girl with no friends, who is an outsider at school, but who is much loved by her monstrous seventy-seven-year-old grandmother.
Elsa and her grandmother took my heart from the beginning. This is the story of the beautiful legacy the grandmother leaves her granddaughter. The grandmother may seem crazy, but she is such a loving grandmother to Elsa, even though she seems crazy, but when her story unfolds, you see what a good person she is.
Grandma does everything she can to help Elsa in her time of need. Her parents are divorced and her mother and new man are expecting a baby, but worst of all, Elsa is having a hard time at school. She has no friends and is constantly bullied. Her grandmother gives this lonely little girl love and friendship and teaches her how to cope by giving her a fairy-tale world.
At first it fascinated me, but then I couldn’t keep up with the details of the characters and the rules of this complex kingdom. But at some point I got a better sense of who the characters were and just went with the flow, because what is revealed in Grandma’s past will make you love her no matter what.
A group of characters live in the same apartment building, and at first you think you know who they are, but then their complicated stories and connections are told as the story progresses.
The author has cleverly, actually very creatively, woven their stories together, and we learn that they have more in common than the same address. Their stories are heartbreaking.
Elsa is definitely beyond her years, but sometimes it was hard to believe that a 7-year-old would be as wise and knowledgeable about people as she is. She is so smart and insightful that sometimes you forget she is only seven until we see the insecurity and vulnerability of a seven-year-old who is going through her parents’ divorce, facing grief and death and her anxiety about having a half brother or sister.
It’s about a little girl and a story, but it’s definitely a book for adult children.

I don’t wonder why this book is a bestseller. There’s good humor, adventure, a fairy tale, and a grandmother and granddaughter. What could be cuter?
Grandma is truly crazy in a good way. She can easily hang out with bikers, she can break into the zoo at night, and she’s a famous grandma among cops. And formerly a very talented doctor who travels to different parts of the world.
By the middle of the book it gets very sad, but no spoilers, but the plot changes in a different direction. And the ending comes out nice and kind and philosophical.
So why three points from me? And all because of Elsa, that seven year old little girl who not only annoyed me, but pissed me off with each new chapter more and more. Yes, I understand that she’s mad at everything and everyone, especially her grandmother. But it was her mannered know-it-all that just googled or read on Wikipedia that pissed me off. The only thing worse was her demands for outsiders to explain everything to her. Who the hell are you? I get that it’s brazen to act that way with your parents: they’re your kin and you’re hurting. But I was also very surprised that not a single character bothered to put Elsa in her place. Everyone is just some kind of spineless mumbles. Maybe it’s the wrong mentality. The fact that the character of the little girl is not at all to my liking, which makes me want to throw this book away.

An incredibly touching story, which, thanks to its genius and as strange as it may sound, its spontaneity, attracts a lot of attention from fans. I found this book completely by chance on one of the shelves in a bookstore. Until then I had not met in the works of the author Fredrik Bachmann. After reading what this book is about, I did not think long and quickly went to the cash register and did not regret a bit. Buckman tells us the story of the relationship between grandmother and granddaughter, that the difference in age or the amount of life experience does not matter at all. The main character and her grandmother are incredibly close and the old lady is almost the only important and close person in the life of the little girl. After her grandmother’s passing into the next world, another side of her grandmother’s personality is revealed to the girl. The story is incredibly interesting, I have reread it several times. And now I recommend it to all my friends. It is also worth noting the author himself, Fredrik Backman is a young Swedish reader whose talent has impressed the world. Thank you.

When I first started reading “Grandma told me to bow and tell her she was sorry,” I was a little put off by Grandma’s reckless behavior. It seemed to me that the behavior was too strange and uncharacteristic of our grandparents. But the further I immersed myself in reading, the more I was attracted to this book.
The title itself is already appealing, although the titles are quite sonorous in all of Fredrik Backman’s creations.
And it was with this book began my acquaintance with the author. And I’m glad that I discovered this writer, although now I have even more time to myself and my favorite books. After all, with each new author has to read faster and more and more.
I really liked the inhabitants of the house where Elsa and her family lived.
The book is incredibly sad in places, but that’s life, there’s no escaping it.
I found Elsa to be a very smart and strong girl, in some places I had a harder time than she did.
I recommend this book as a must-read. It is simple and easy to read in the same breath, while being very cool.
It’s written just fine.

I had two grandmothers. One passed away when I was 10, the other when I was 13. Now my mother is working as a grandmother, and one day it will be my turn.
What will I be like? Shaking, crying over my grandchildren, cooking borscht and pies, knitting gloves and socks… And dzuski! I want to be like Grandma from the book.
Funny, hot-tempered, driving a car at 77, shooting a paintball gun, not closing the door to the restroom… She also knows a lot of stories.
“People need to tell someone their stories, Elsa. Otherwise, they will suffocate.”
And she gives them to her granddaughter: about the Land of Wakefulness; about the 6 kingdoms; about two princes who fought for the princess’s love; about the Sea Angel; about the animal clouds; about the girl who said no; about the wurst, about the witch, about the treasure, about the Wolf’s Heart, about the War Without End and about Miamas.
Little Elsa (well, as little as she can be-she is almost 8) has been absorbing them since childhood, getting used to them. Gradually, the boundaries become blurred, and she can no longer tell whether she is in a fairy tale or in reality
I miss you.
I dream.
I dare.
I dance.
I fight.
I love.
The characters in the book are different – strange, fearful, timid, annoying, angry – but all of them are morally wounded by certain circumstances. Each in their own way. However, their hearts remain open, sincere and thirsty for love! And it saves them, unites them, brings them back to life. Love for a little girl, love for a woman doctor, love for their own home. All this is what the clever and sensible Elsa has to learn.
What will you do when your world is falling apart around you?
“Then we’ll do what everyone else does, we’ll do what we can.”
This is an incredible story imbued with love. Love is felt in every page, in every story, in every character.
It is special, vulnerable, trembling, but it is so necessary for all people! We need it so much!
