With each new installment of the series about the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, the tension is growing and the palace intrigues are becoming more complex and intricate. In addition to fighting monsters, the Witcher must protect Princess Cyrilla and teach her how to defend herself in order to regain her lost throne in the future. At this time, the enemies begin to act more and more actively…
Still, the series by Andrzej Sapkowski turned out to be “not my” story. It’s not fun to read, and the characters are not interesting to watch. In this part, I paid too much attention to battle scenes and intrigue. Sometimes the plot was so full of descriptions of palace intrigues that my head was spinning and I had to reread whole paragraphs to “get to the bottom of it” and understand everything. Unfortunately, I got only 3/5.

This is the 4th book of the legendary cycle, one of the most interesting among the first four, because finally there is a connected plot, something concrete happens. It all starts with a certain group of wizards staging a coup, which leads to dire consequences. Although Nilfgard does not directly attack, the threat exists, because there was no logical end to the war, and it is only a matter of time before the conflict spreads further and the Nilfgardians want to take over the rest of the territory. Against this backdrop, we are watching the fate of Tsiri, who is not an ordinary girl, but we still cannot say for sure who she is.
In fact, when you read this cycle, you get the impression that Sapkowski knew something. The deaths of innocents, the seizure of foreign lands, the rape of women and children. The book is at once very interesting and dynamic, and to some extent allows us to look at contemporary real-life events in a completely different way. It is to some extent instructive. The fate of Tsiri, Geralt, and Jenefer is very interesting.
Sapkowski has created a very interesting image of Tsiri, who, even halfway through the cycle, still remains a mystery. I strongly advise you to continue reading this cycle!

Political wars continue – not only between the kings, but also between the wizarding community.
At the same time, Ciri and Yenefer are on their way to Arethusa, a school for young wizards. Because Cirilla needs to learn to master her great, immense power of the Elder Blood.
But they don’t know yet that she is not destined to learn the art of magic in the cozy, though sometimes prison-like walls of the school of wizards.
The wizard Wilgefortz lures self-confident magicians to his side. He takes the side of the Nilfgaard Empire and its imperturbable emperor…
Upon arrival on the island of Thanedd, a real storm begins – the magicians fight among themselves, each for their own beliefs. Jenefer, Ciri, and Geralt are also involved in this massacre.
While the Witcher rushes to help his family, Yenefer disappears in an unknown direction, no one knows which side she was on. But knowing their dislike for her, it’s not hard to guess that Yen was immediately branded a traitor.
Geralt is seriously wounded in Thanedd, and Tris Marigold takes him to the forest of Brokilon, the forest of the dryads, to be healed.
In all this turmoil, Cirilla flees to the Gull Tower, and is chased by Carig Aep Kellach, the same warrior who dreamed of her in nightmares after the fall of Cintra, and the wizard Wilgefortz. Both have orders to deliver the poor princess to the Emperor of Nilfgaard, Emhir van Emreis. But one of them betrays everyone he swore allegiance to, except himself…..
Cira manages to fight off Kagir, but escaping from the wizard is not so easy, so she is forced to jump into the faulty portal of the Gull Tower, which throws her into a valley where she must go through all the circles of hell before getting out… She meets all kinds of monsters on her way…
But not only that – she will have a good friend and assistant, not only now but also in the future – the unicorn Ihuarraquax.
After everything she has been through, Ciri meets the Rats bandit gang and begins her journey with them……

The fourth book in the series about the wizard Geralt of Rivia is a turning point in the cycle. The previous one ends on a piercing note – the wizards’ rebellion on the island of Thanedd, instead of pacifying the kings and resolving the threat of a full-scale war, ended in a bloody massacre and mountains of corpses. Geralt is seriously wounded, and on the verge of death he arrives in Brokilon, where he is rescued by the Dryads. Jennifer disappears, and no one can say for sure which side of the barricades she was on. Ciri is chased by Wilgefortz, and they also disappear, destroying the notorious portal of the Seagull Tower. No one knows where Ciri is now, whether she is in captivity or not, or whether she is even alive.
This book is almost entirely about Tsiri and her struggle for life. Her willpower and courage. The way she went forward and did not give up. On her way there will be monsters and miracles, delusions and magic. And she will be constantly being attacked by people who want to take advantage of her extraordinary abilities, which are still unclear to Tsira herself.
There is a war going on, people are turning into a mess, the land is scorched wasteland. Values have been destroyed, and the only thing left to live is here and now, to live brightly, to live cheerfully, to live with contempt for everything and everyone that came before. Ciri falls into this vortex, and who knows how she will get out of it.
Sapkovsky does not change himself – the fourth book, like the previous ones in the series, is tense and exciting, it is impossible to tear yourself away from it. Dizzying adventures, a kaleidoscope of events, death coming on the heels, all-encompassing war and the horror of battles. At the same time, it is very easy to read, the book is literally swallowed. In a word – masterfully!
