Buy Book "The Witch. The blood of the elves. Book 3" in Ukrainian

It was with great pleasure that I started reading the world-famous series about the adventures of the White Witch. However, the further I read, the less I like the book, unfortunately. And there are several reasons for this.

In particular, the third part, Blood of the Elves, is no longer a collection of stories about Geralt’s adventures in Rivia, but a full-fledged linear story. It was difficult for me to read because of the oversaturation of the text with battle scenes and descriptions of palace intrigues. The author’s language was more difficult to perceive, as there were no “breaks” between the story (as there were in the previous two books). I will, of course, continue reading the series with the hope for the best, but I rate this part only 3/5.

Blood of Elves is the third part of the saga of the witch Geralt of Rivia. After the two previous books, which are collections of short stories in themselves, the third is a single story. It was easier for me as a reader because there were no time jumps or sudden changes of locations.

This part is very interesting and thoughtful in terms of political intrigue and the state of the Northern kingdoms in the actual state of war with Nilfgaard.

Geralt and Ciri go to the witch’s stronghold of Caer Moren, where the Lioness will learn the witch’s art. Although Kaer Morin has lost its mutation secrets, there are still obstacle courses there, where Cirilla trains.

Jennifer is not forgotten in this part, she will become Cirilla’s mentor and will protect her from the dangers that await the only descendant of Queen Calante – the lioness from Cintra. Some people want to kill her, others want to lure her to their side to use her.

This part is even more intriguing and encourages you to read the next. In a nutshell, you can say that this book is “colorful”.

I like the direction of this story, so I will read on.

The third part of the fantasy made me both happy and disappointed.

Finally, the author consistently tells a coherent story, not torn pieces of stories. Little by little, more politics, more geography of the territories appear and the world of the book becomes clearer and wider. The example of Ciri’s training makes the history of witches and their creation clearer. In general, this part shows the scale of the story and hints of really good and majestic fantasy.

The only thing I missed was the interpretations of the fairy tales that I liked so much in the previous parts.

So the war with Nilfgaard is over, Cintra is destroyed and captured. Cirilla has successfully escaped and meets Geralt.

The third book recounts the post-war events. The disappearance of the princess is too significant an event, so those concerned take it upon themselves to find her. Very actively engaged. And there are a lot of interested parties. Nilfgaard, neighboring kingdoms. In this case, Ciri was very lucky to be the surprise child. Geralt has taken her under his protection and they’re on their way. Somewhere where she can’t be found.

Rumor has it that Cirilla is dead. But of course, the powers that be of this world do not believe that.

In this book, the narrative follows a coherent narrative with a straightforward time sequence. We will also meet old acquaintances, Jenifer and Buttercup, who will again play major roles on the world stage. We also get to meet new characters.

Ciri has a tremendous gift and it is manifesting itself more and more often. That it needs to be developed is clear to both Geralt and Jenifer. Cyril herself, of course, no one asks. So hopefully soon we’ll learn more about her and her gift.

In the third book of the saga about the witch Geralt of Rivia, there will be no more simple, light stories. This is a full-fledged story that tells both about the past war with Nilfgaard and about what has happened to Geralt and Ciri since they met. The girl is not just a Child of Surprise, she has a strange and rare gift, but Geralt cannot help her or protect her from the world alone. Because of this gift, a real hunt begins for Ciri, so they have to hide – and learn at the same time. Ciri grows up, matures, and her gift manifests itself more and more often and strangely.

The third book of the series no longer resembles cute fairy tales and rehashes, as it was in the first books. And even if there were bloody scenes in the first books, there are more and more of them in the third book, and they become more and more bloody. Entrails released, limbs severed, blood gushing from severed arteries… If you are uncomfortable with such pictures, do not read 🙂 Mr. Sapkowski, of course, does not savor such scenes and does not describe them in detail, but death by the sword and devaluation of human life are on every page. Dark, dark times, and even darker times are coming.
