The fact is that in this case we have an untranslatable play on English words in the title of the book, because Crooked Kingdom is both an upside-down kingdom, a kingdom of curves, and a Crow’s Kingdom. The number of positive reviews speaks for itself, but I will add one more. The dangerous mission was a success, but unexpectedly, Kaz Brecker and his team face new challenges. Now they will have to confront the entire underworld of Ketterdam, its rulers, secret agents of foreign intelligence, and powerful Ravkian mages. The one who wins this fight will become a true king of criminals. Constant dynamics and stunning adventures do not allow you to relax for a moment. But the fact is that this, the second book of the dilogy about the six daredevil Ravens, is a kind of bridge between the Shadows and Bones trilogy and the following books depicting the Grishaverse universe invented by the author. In particular, The King of Scars. By the way, King Nikolai himself, known from the Shadows trilogy, will appear on the pages of this book along with other favorite characters, such as the magicians Zhenya Safina and Zoya Nazyalenska, and through them we will learn what is happening in Ravka after Darkling’s defeat, as described in the previous books.

It was just incredible to read how L. Bardugo twisted the plot in the last part, but here she impresses even more: the characters open up from an unexpected side, the “thieves” are no less intelligent than Kaz and his team (the author did not fail in this, as others often do). It helps incredibly to go deeper into this world and think about the end, which is approaching very quickly, because it is very difficult to put the book down, but I think it is necessary. If you “swallowed” six and quickly want to move on to this one, you can drown. L. Bardugo fills his stories with small details, humor, tears, and an incredible plot that will be hard to remember in one reading. “The Kingdom of Swindlers has many answers to many of the strange actions of the characters from the previous part.”

As for the plot, I would add that if you get bored, get ready for a storm. It will happen.

As for the characters, I would like to say that fans of all the author’s books will have a pleasant surprise. The relationship between the main characters becomes more solid, they begin to trust each other even more, at their “scum” level) No one was deprived of attention.

The ending promises everyone a lot of vivid emotions, and reading this story once is not enough.

These crooks know how to love and be friends like no one else… because I have never seen such friends and love lines in books.

They are geniuses. And their actions confirm this.

The Kterdam dilogy are books that have forever taken a place in my heart. I admire Lee Bardugo’s talent. The author has managed to create a world that is unlike any other. It is unique, ruthless, and very atmospheric. The characters are thought out to the smallest detail, each of them has their own story, which is unique. Kaz Brecker is a brilliant bastard.

The Kingdom of Crooks unfolds after the deadly kidnapping of Quay from the Ice Palace. Kaz and his gang are supposed to be counting money and making their dreams come true, but they are forced to fight for their lives again.

The plot is extremely dynamic, with many events and unexpected twists and turns that made my heart sink. For example, there are two chapters about Inez in the book that made my heart flutter, and chapter 40 broke it.

But I would love to read another book about crows, or more than one…

I repeat myself, but Li Bardugo’s world is extraordinary, filled with fascinating descriptions and dialogues, with an atmosphere that gives you the creeps.

This quote is very aptly featured on the book’s cover:

“If you can’t win, change the rules of the game.”

This is exactly what the main characters had to do throughout the second part of the book. One after another, their plans went awry, and it seemed that the characters would not be able to get out of another trap, but each time Lee Bardugo turned everything upside down so skillfully that it was only admirable.

Unlike the first book, this one draws you in from the very first pages, because the characters are already familiar to us, as are the peculiarities of the world. And this allows you to plunge headlong into the atmosphere of Ketterdam. You seem to feel this disgusting city, where only money decides everything. No wonder even the god worshipped there is the god of trade.

It’s really hard to believe that all these criminals are only 17 years old. But they think very much like adults. And Bardugo gives a clear rationale for this – what these people went through made them grow up early.

Kaz Brekker is so brilliant at making plans one after the other that at times everything seems like a big play in which all the actors obey only his script. It’s fascinating because all the secrets of the play are revealed to the reader gradually, and sometimes Bardugo describes the actions of the characters in such a way that you can’t understand what exactly is going to happen and what it will lead to: will the hero really betray his team, will they really kill one of them, will they really go to their conscious death, or is it all part of a crazy plan?

The Kingdom of Crooks confidently keeps its reader tense until the very end. Literally until the very last pages. When there were still 30 pages to go, I was already feeling a little disappointed that the adventure was over and that there would be some kind of “happy ending” and that there would be no more intrigue. But Bardugo has prepared many surprises for the end of the dilogy.

I also can’t help but notice the apt humor and wise sayings of the characters. They are all criminals, unpredictable, cruel, cunning, and that is why they are the only ones who understand each other, who see each other’s true sides.

I think it’s more than just a dilogy about the crimes of the most dangerous scum from a city full of crooks and criminals. It’s a story about life’s hardships, deception, revenge, loyalty, true friendship, devotion, and even love.

I am delighted! That’s how getting to know the author automatically made her one of my favorite authors from now on.
