History of Ukraine by Grandfather Svyryd is an attempt to popularize science among the masses. And while there are plenty of books in the West that present boring things in a popular form, there are still not enough Ukrainian books by Ukrainian authors in this genre.
Grandfather Svyryd began publishing his books on Facebook, but for lovers of classical literature, History of Ukraine is published in print.
The first volume of the book covers the period from the earliest times, the emergence of primitive people, to 1036.
The material in the book is written in a lively, not clerical language, and the historical characters are portrayed not as some unattainable celestials, but as ordinary people, with all their flaws and virtues.
I confess that we lack such books in Ukraine, because if you read serious things in a light form, they are better remembered and perceived.
I am sure that this book can be used both in preparation for studying history in schools and universities, and to broaden one’s horizons and ordinary erudition.
In addition, this is only the first book in which Svyryd’s grandfather introduces the reader to the first millennia of our land’s history.

Do you want to restore the gaps of knowledge in the history of Ukraine, but the serious tone of textbooks, the abundance of terms and dates scare you? Then this book will come in handy by all means!
After all, this tome includes material that is accessible presented in a fresh and non-trivial way. You will easily grasp the events from the primitive era to the formation of Kievan Rus’ and witness the unfolding of the history of our nation.
The main “highlight” of the book is the “resurrection” of historical characters that allows the reader to watch with interest for their interaction, the course of thought, decision-making and motivation for action.
Well, the bonus to all of the above is a generous dose of humor, colorful illustrations and a strong dose of extrapolation to modern realities. Of course, the book is geared more toward high school or college students, but this presentation of the story can be interesting for adult readers as well.
I devoured this treasure in 24 hours, getting a lot of positive emotions! I highly recommend it! The book is worth the price of admission to your library.
The second volume is on the way, I hope Ded Svirid will not stop and continue to delight his readers with new works.

Have you ever had to leave a little earlier or a little later, lingering in the car under the house, just to finish listening to “The gist of events” on the radio of that wonderful Grandpa Svirid? If so, this book is for you!
Have you ever been bored and sleepy with history at school, and realized that told by someone else, perhaps the story would not be so boring and, I dare say it, even interesting? If so, this book is for you, too!
Has it ever happened that somewhere are discussing some historical events, and you fell as if from the moon: what, about what, what are the Universals, it’s clearly not about cars … and it becomes so ashamed of not knowing the history of their country, and time to read and delve into not so much, and fresh textbooks, alas, catching slumber… If so, this book is for you, too!
Let’s hope that the grandfather will not stop halfway and will delight us with new volumes of Ukrainian history, up to the present time!
And another thing, a certain part of the amount you paid for this wonderful book goes for good causes 🙂

Do many children at school like history? Only a few. And why is that? Because we are often presented with information in the form of boring lectures and a large amount of text in textbooks. So how do you get a child interested in studying the history of their country?
The Justinian Publishing House has published a book called “History of Ukraine from Grandfather Svyryd,” in which a man named Grandfather Svyryd tells the story of our country from the very beginning to the present. But what makes this book different from dozens of others?
First, in this book, the author presents information in an incredibly simple and easy way. He describes the events in a way that is extremely understandable for everyone – both children and adults.
Second, you will not find a whole bunch of dates to memorize here. “Grandfather Svyryd” tells the story in such an interesting and uncomplicated way that all the necessary information will be remembered without any effort.
I recommend it to anyone who is interested in the history of our country or who studies history in order to pass exams.
The first book describes the events of Kievan Rus (IX-XIII centuries)

When science is taught in an easy and accessible language, it creates a desire to study it, explore something new, learn additional information, and just read. “History of Ukraine from Grandfather Svyryd” is written in an interesting, easy-to-understand, accessible, and sometimes somewhat ironic way. The material is easy to read. Moreover, the audience of readers can be completely different. The book is written in such a way that both children and adults will read it with interest. The book contains a lot of dialogues of historical figures, which makes it possible to bring them closer to the reader, to “ground” them, to make them more accessible. The peculiarity of the material in the publication is not just a statement of historical facts, but also the involvement of the reader in their analysis and rethinking. Isn’t this a textbook for self-study?
This book belongs to the publications that could be called “textbooks that are not taught at school.” I think the authors of the latter have something to learn from Ded Svyryd. I also liked the quality of the design, the color illustrations, and the quality of the paper.
I recommend it to absolutely everyone: schoolchildren, students, and adults. Have a nice and good reading.
