It’s quite an interesting book, I liked that everything develops very quickly, there is no extra water. There are some questions about the depth of the characters, because most of the characters are somewhat cardboard.
Only June is the only one we can look inside.
In general, I liked the book, read the first one in two days, and immediately ordered the second one.

If this was my first fantasy, I would have liked it, but… First of all, the main characters are too primitive, although I think I would have liked it for a 13-year-old audience.
The main character was annoying at times, and the plot itself was boring, although the idea was good.
But despite this, I liked the idea of combining the world of fae and the modern world of people, which is the first time I’ve seen it in a book and it’s quite good.
Otherwise, I didn’t like the main character herself, her actions, words, sometimes contradictory. I don’t quite understand why she’s so admired online… maybe in the next parts she’ll have a steep personal growth, but I don’t want to read the second part yet, because I barely finished the first one.
Despite this, for a first fantasy, it’s pretty good…

I heard a lot of good things about this book and all expectations were definitely met! It is easy and fast to read.
The plot is dynamic and intense. This is a book for those who don’t like long-windedness: everything happens quickly and the characters fully meet this condition. Each of the characters has their own well-developed personality, character, and interests, their actions are absolutely logical, and there is no feeling that everything and everyone is adjusting to the plot for the author’s convenience.
We should also mention Jude, who is definitely not one of the weak protagonists for whom everything is decided by others. If you’re a fan of epic stories with conspiracies, spies, and battles, this book is for you.
In addition to all of the above, I loved the description of the People. I’ve never come across literature about the fae before, but I definitely enjoyed it. Everything is absolutely consistent with mythological ideas about them.

I read this series back in the summer, I think. And for the new year I ordered myself some books, because I like what I read online to still be on the shelf. And re-reading.
Usually still like to read teen novels, I here for some reason became interested in a story about magical creatures. And so drawn in by the story that I read all three books with gusto, and then I also learned that there is an additional story about Cardan.
From the beginning I was angry about the attitude of the prince and his whole family towards the main character and her twin sister. And then all of a sudden the prince changed from anger to mercy. Surprised, but pleased. And let someone say that it was expected. But for me, everything is woven into the story quite organically.
I love stories where the girls are strong and not inferior to even the men. And this story is exactly that. Jude, how she survives her parents’ death and kidnapping as a child, how she battles the prince, his family and friends, and then the man she’s been used to thinking of as her father and his army for the past few years. How she becomes the first mortal queen of magical creatures and is sworn to her allegiance. How she survives the prince’s curse, and how she looks for ways to put things back the way they were. That’s why she absolutely deservedly finds happiness at the end.
I only wish there was a bonus Cardan story in the store in translation, I would have liked to put it on my shelf too.

“The Cruel Prince” is an incredibly fascinating story that from the very first pages strikes with its cruelty and, in a sense, realism. The book tells the story of a mortal girl, Jude, who has two sisters, Taryn and Vivienne, the first of whom is her twin. For a while, the girls have a normal happy childhood: interesting games, friends, and loving parents. But one day, this idyll is destroyed and the world of the main characters is turned upside down: the orphaned Jude, Vivienne and Taryn find themselves in a previously unknown world of magical and terrifying fae, where traditions and customs are completely different. The girls grow up under the influence of alien suggestions, trying to adapt as best they can to the peculiarities of the fey mentality, which is characterized by contempt for humans. It should be noted that in the world of the stunning fae, the use of slaves is considered legal and even respectful. That’s why we can understand how difficult it was to grow up in such circumstances for seven-year-old girls whose parents were killed by one of the fae.
Holly Black was able to build this world in such detail and logic that it is easily perceived by the reader. Every step taken by the main characters has its own reason and consequence, which will definitely affect the course of the whole story. As you read, you will be able to understand every action of the characters, even if he or she is the antagonist of this book.
I was immediately impressed by the author’s writing style, especially the constant tension that kept me reading from the moment I started reading. In addition, a huge number of taunts, physical and mental attacks caused only horror and shock, but I like it when an author, describing his world, adjusts the course of the story to this description. That is, if the world of the fae, so beautiful, but no less terrifying, is characterized as cruel, then the author must convey to the reader why this is so. And Holly Black has shown this in abundance. But despite this, the main character of the book is a human girl, Jude, who dares to fight for her life. And I think one of the biggest advantages of the story is the development of the main character, who is constantly improving herself.
Of course, sometimes the main character’s actions could only irritate me, but if you find out the reason for such behavior, it becomes clear that a person who grew up in such an environment could not have acted differently.
That’s why I certainly recommend this book to those who are not afraid of all the horrible things that happen in the world of the fae.
