The Chronicles of Narnia. The complete history of the magical world

– All 7 parts of the legendary cycle in one book. – Original illustrations by Pauline Baines, created for the first edition. One day, the age of the magic apple tree will come to an end and a large wardrobe will be made from its trunk. For many years it will serve only to store coats and fur coats in the house of a lonely professor. But one rainy day, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy will hide in it from the harsh housewife. And they will find themselves in Narnia, a country that opens its secret doors only to those who sincerely believe in miracles. The mighty lion Aslan – the king of beasts and the ruler of all things, the evil White Witch with an icy heart, amazing fairy-tale creatures and animals that can talk, four children who will become Narnian kings and queens and will return from the human world every now and then to save Narnia from the dark forces… On the pages of the seven-part fantasy chronicle, Lewis’s heroes will once again prove that evil will always be defeated by good. To do this, you just need to believe in at least a small miracle! During the bombing of London in 1940, four evacuated children settled in the country estate of the writer and philosopher Clive Staples Lewis. While exploring his old house, one of the boys asked if there was something behind a large wardrobe in one of the rooms. And Lewis immediately remembered how he and his brother used to hide in its darkness to tell each other stories… He realized that children need good and sincere fairy tales at any time. Thus, almost seventy years ago, the story of the magical land of Narnia was born, and today it is read by children and adults in more than 40 languages. It has been included in the lists of the best books of all time and has sold over 100 million copies.

I always thought that fantasy was not my literary genre, as I prefer stories where there is a sense of reality. But this book rediscovered fantasy for me, and Narnia just absorbed me for a week (I read one story a day). And the book came out, to me, much more entertaining than the movies based on its plot.

Four children by chance discover Narnia, a magical land that exists in a parallel world where time flows much slower (the years spent in Narnia are no more than a day in our dimension), where the human world is also inhabited by all kinds of fabulous creatures, many of whom have amazing powers, where, as in any fairy tale world, there is a sharp confrontation between good and evil. Each of the seven thrilling stories of the wondrous Narnia took place at a different time in its history and with different protagonists, but everywhere there was magic, overcoming one’s fears, an incredibly exciting adventure, and a struggle for justice. Every Narnia story is original, and the complete Narnia Chronicles series is the best fantasy.

The book is rather bulky, but the design is quite nice. KJV is not famous for its covers, but I want to see famous books in a beautiful design, and this one does not disappoint. Due to its size, it is rather thick, so it looks a bit shabby to me personally, but that’s a matter of opinion.

It is convenient that all seven books are collected here and in chronological order. My dad had to read them randomly when he was young, so in this comparison, I confidently favor this collection. It is easier and better to follow all the events and, moreover, to observe the growth of the characters. And, of course, when you finish reading, you can immediately move on to the sequel.

I can’t say that the books themselves made me rave about them, but they are really good. Perhaps my attitude is based only on my slightly skeptical attitude towards the classics at the time of reading. My interest grew after I learned that the lion represents Jesus Christ, who accompanies and protects children.

Actually, I could really recommend this book. The biggest advantage, as mentioned above, is the grouped presentation and convenience. At the moment, I have not seen any analogues.

“Someday you’ll grow to the day when you start reading fairy tales again.”

This incredible book includes seven novellas. The movie is based on the second, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Few people know (and I used to be among them) that there is a story about the creation of Narnia, how and why there are talking animals, where the famous lamppost came from, and how the evil Witch got into this world.

Of all the stories, “Prince Caspian,” “Voyage to the End of the World,” and “The Last Battle” came to my heart the most. While I had seen movies on the first two, the plot of the last one came as a surprise to me. The story spiraled to perfection! And how I worried about the poor donkey Lopucha! I literally could not find myself, until I found out how he got out of this whole story. The plot will not tell you everything, you’ll find out for yourself.

It is amazing how much the author loves children! This feeling permeates every line! He is like a kind grandfather telling his adoring grandchildren his magical story.

This story is not just for children, it is for adults! Everyone should read it!

К. C. S. Lewis is the author of seven works about children’s travels to a fantasy world, which he called The Chronicles of Narnia.

No matter how much time has passed, the stories about the magical world of Narnia, where only children can get, the four children have been and will be popular and discussed works.

The work is filled with sincere and sweet characters that are very popular with everyone, including adults. I heard about the books thanks to the movies, so when I saw the entire collection, I immediately bought it. I believe that every fantasy fan should definitely get acquainted with Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie.

These works teach everything that is good and beautiful in the world.

This book is imbued with love – for life, for nature, for animals, for people, but above all for children! The incredible world of Narnia will enchant, conquer your hearts and capture your imagination, sending you to the expanse of dreams about Narnia.

There is no need to talk about the plot, because I am sure that everyone has seen the movie adaptation at least once.

A wonderful book with a good Ukrainian translation and illustrations by Pauline Baynes from the first English-language edition of The Chronicles of Narnia in the 1950s.

Thanks to the publishing house and the Yakaboo store!

“The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis is rightfully considered a classic in the fantasy genre and is on a par with The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien. They have been talked about, are being talked about, and, I am sure, will be talked about for a long time. When I started to read the book, I knew roughly the plot and what it would be about, because as a child I had seen the film adaptations of the first three works from two thousand five, eight, and ten years ago. For those of you who don’t know, The Chronicles of Narnia is not a full-fledged book, but a collection of short stories, seven in all. I propose to go through each of them.

(First) The Lion, the White Witch and the Wardrobe. One of the stories I liked the most. I think there is no point in retelling the plot in detail, because almost everyone has seen the movie, and it is as identical as possible to the story. I will only say that the author tells us about four ordinary children named Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie. Their parents sent them away from London during the war because of the bombing to an old professor, in whose house the children will find a magic wardrobe that transports them to another country where magic reigns and some animals are intelligent and can talk.

(Second) Prince Caspian, in which our heroes return to Narnia again, but find out that more than a thousand years have passed, and things are not going well in the country. New characters appear here, including the newly-minted prince, who I remember really liking in the movie, but in the novel he was the most annoying character of all. It is worth noting that in this part the film adaptation and the novel are very different, so if I compare the movie and the book, I definitely liked the movie better. Let me explain why. The screenwriters added more conflicts, the characters were better developed, and the plot was more dynamic. In conclusion, it’s “okay, but not a fountain”.

(Third) “Sea Adventures of the Star Traveler”. This time only the youngest of the Pevensies, Lucy and Edmund, who are my favorites, return to Narnia. There is also a movie adaptation of this part, so I won’t say much. Compared to the previous novel, this one is better, but again, I liked the movie more because of the dynamism and storyline of the relationship between Caspian and Edmund (by the way, the book’s Caspian still annoys me with his behavior, especially at the end).

(Fourth) “The Silver Throne”. In this story, we part ways with the Pevensie family and meet Eustace again, and also meet a girl named Jill, with whom Eustace travels to Narnia. This part, in my SUBJECTIVE opinion, is the most boring of all the stories. Perhaps children liked it, but I, at the age of sixteen, had to almost force myself to finish it.

(Fifth) “The Horse and His Boy.” Well, for now I will sing its praises. I liked the story INCREDIBLY. There were no more travels of children from another world, but on the contrary, we learn more about Narnia itself and its inhabitants, or rather about such a country as Fear and the boy Shasta. I really liked this kid as the main character, and their fight with Aravis added spice and fun to the plot. I also liked the horse Igo.
