I would never have thought that a non-culinary reader would chase a cookbook. But that’s me, and I’ve managed to get The 1st Ukrainian… on my shelf. Because it’s great! It tells us about traditions, customs, and a little bit about the life of the Franko family (not just literature!). In short, I am delighted. I highly recommend it.

If you want to diversify your menu with new delicious dishes, I advise you to pay attention to Olga Franko’s book The First Ukrainian General Practical Cookbook, which has been popular among cooks and housewives for over ninety years (the first edition of the collection was published back in 1929) and proves that the best dishes are those whose recipes have been tested by time.
I am convinced that even the most demanding gourmet will find at least a few dozen recipes on the pages of this publication that they will want to recreate in their own kitchen. For example, I often cook myself now and recommend everyone to try buckwheat porridge with mushroom gravy and cottage cheese with sour cream and onions (depending on the season and taste preferences, you can use onions or green onions).
The book was written in the first half of the twentieth century, so it is not surprising that it contains quite a few obscure terms (not everyone knows that nadivka is a filling and shchyky is a porcini mushroom), which, fortunately, are explained in Marianna Dushar’s comments.
The publication is bright and of high quality. The collection is in hardcover, with offset pages and colorful inserts. It will be a good gift for every cook.
