The Chytarium publishing house is perhaps the first place to go for a gift for the kids 🙂 At least for books by this author. We started our acquaintance with Julia Donaldson’s poetic fairy tales with the Gruffalo we received as a gift, and quickly got hooked on everything else, even having several books in the original.
“The Snail and the Whale, like many of Ms. Donaldson’s other works, is a simple but not primitive story, not devoid of plot, development, characters, and even conflict. This book tells the story of an overly restless snail who dreams of adventure. His snail friends think this is a crazy and too dangerous idea. But Snail realizes his dream anyway and travels the world on the tail of the friendly Whale. Suddenly, the Whale gets into trouble and it’s Snail’s turn to help his friend out. Of course, everything ends with a happy ending, because this is a children’s book. In addition to the issues of perseverance and self-belief, this work is about friendship and the fact that you don’t have to look big and strong to make a difference, because even a small snail can become a savior of a big whale.

What can a small snail, whose entire world is a rock above the sea, have in common with a huge whale traveling across the vast expanses of seas and oceans? At first glance, nothing. A small prisoner of his home and a giant who knows no limits. So different, one day they will unite to make an exciting journey that will change their lives forever. The snail will see such a beautiful and vast world, all the diversity of life from Antarctica to Africa, the beauty of underwater life and the diversity of land. And the whale will get a faithful friend who will never leave him in trouble, despite his weakness and huge external limitations, will show incredible strength of spirit, will make every effort to save his friend from danger.
Undoubtedly, this book is a masterpiece, a hit for many years. An instructive, fascinating, very emotional book makes you first feel sorry for the snail, who only dreams of seeing the world and is limited to a piece of rock in the sea, then sincerely rejoice in his exciting journey; suddenly the story takes a sharp turn and the giant needs help and the reader follows the development of events with bated breath, waiting for a happy ending. The good book gives us just such an ending to the adventures of a strange couple, because it is about true friendship, for which there are no obstacles, which will overcome all adversity.
The story is further enhanced by the unsurpassed illustrations by Axel Scheffler. Lovely characters that will surely appeal to the child, a lot of small details that can be seen every time you read, picturesque landscapes that instantly transport us to distant lands – all this enriched and decorated this book. In addition, the publication itself is of high quality: hardcover, coated paper. It’s a great story, we love it with the whole family.

This is an incredibly wonderful book for children. You can read it to your baby anywhere: at sea, at home, in the crib. But the book is really very cool. The pictures alone make it seem as if you are really going on a journey with Snail and Whale. Each page is a separate work of art that you want to look at and examine. The story itself is very easy to read. Even when it’s late and a restless child demands a fairy tale, and your tongue is tied, “The Snail and the Whale” will come to your aid, because this story is short for you, but long and full of adventures for the child.
Actually, I came across this wonderful book by accident. My friend asked me to read a story to her restless little sister. I realized that it would be a challenge, but I was saved by Snail and Whale, who took this hot-tempered child on their long journey across unknown seas and oceans. If you have a child, this book is worth at least your attention.
The story tells us about a little Ralik who wanted to see the sea. He was very lucky that at that moment he made friends with the Whale. And so the two friends set off on an exciting journey. Many great discoveries and dangers await them, but they will overcome everything together, because they are united by a strong friendship and the sea…

All books related to the sea, fish and water bring my son great happiness. And what could be more important than that.
We have almost all of Julia Donaldson’s books. She writes very well and the translation by Oksana Lushchevska is easily understood by children.
The book contains wonderful illustrations of a whale and a snail by Axel Scheffel. This work depicts their merry adventures in the seas and oceans. Here we can see images of wonderful sunny weather on the water and a big storm.
The book itself has a large format, which helps to look at the images.
The main idea of the book is that no matter what size you are or what breed you are, if you have a sincere desire to achieve something and get something, then everything is possible.
This is how the little snail really wanted to see the world and he succeeded. Thus, he proved to his relatives that sitting still is not everything. There are many interesting and exciting things around us and far beyond our comfort zone.
The book also beautifully depicts the mutual help of people to other living beings. I would like to see people and animals helped like that everywhere. There would be less evil around and a better environment.

About the book, hard glossy cover, nice thick pages, landscape format is the same as all Julia Donaldson books, except for a few editions.
The adaptive translation by Chitarium Publishers is a joy, as always.
The illustrations by Axel Scheffler are peerless, my favorite in children’s illustration.
From the first lines of reading you immediately realize that you’re reading Julia Donaldson, all just and clearly, in our children’s library already have all of her works, translated into the Russian language, waiting for more books from Chitarium Julia Donaldson.
The tale itself is quite interesting, it’s about a little snail that went on a journey through the seas and oceans on the tail of a humpback whale. The two of them throughout the story have a lot to experience together and see a lot of new things, get into a thunderstorm and a storm, see a volcanic eruption, beautiful landscapes, mountains, icebergs, beaches, forests.
The snail sees all this and thinks itself so tiny in this world compared to everything else.
But when the whale was in trouble and ran aground at low tide, he told the snail that he was so big and heavy that he could not move on his own, and the snail did not get confused and went to look for help and eventually saved the whale)
