This is the first book in a series of books about Patsy and Findus that we read with our son. He is just delighted!

We have been looking at Sven Norkdqvist’s books about Patsy and his cat Findus with our son since he was 3.5 years old. Our friend who is a couple of years older than us has been recommending these books for a long time. But we decided to wait a little longer until he was older, and so far we have been enjoying another series of books about a large rabbit family.

From an early age, my son was used to listening to long texts, supplemented by beautiful detailed drawings that corresponded to the plot. It was quite difficult to find something similar. There are a lot of good children’s books, usually very beautiful, but with a text volume of one or two sentences per page, although sometimes with deep meaning. My son quickly loses interest in such books. Or he can flip through them himself. But for a traditional long reading before bedtime, he likes to read longer to listen, clarify details, and look at it.

And so, finally, we found a worthy alternative for my now 5-year-old son! For his birthday, we gave him this book about Findus the cat’s birthday. My son is delighted, we read it every day, and some moments several times! The book is kind, funny and witty, positive. I like that the humor in it is already for older children, and understandable. I’ve already stocked up on the next books about Findus and Patsy, and I’m looking forward to continuing reading!

The translation into Ukrainian is very good, but sometimes there is still a desire to correct some Russianisms.

I bought this beautiful book “Petson, Findus and Birthday Cake” as a present for my son’s birthday, not knowing yet that it was part of a series and that he and I would become faithful readers of stories about the adventures of Grandpa Petson and his unusual cat, Findus. The author of the series is Norwegian Sven Nordqvist, who also illustrates his books. All of the pictures are very bright, detailed, juicy, so the book is interesting not only to read, but also just to look at.

As for the story itself, everything will take place on the day of the next birthday party for Finnus. On every such holiday, Petson bakes a cake for his pet, but on this day, everything went wrong all at once. The birthday cake requires flour, and to get it out of the attic, you need a ladder, which for some reason was not at hand. This is where the adventure begins. Now we have the entire series about Petson and Findus on our shelves, and from time to time my son and I reread it with pleasure. The editions themselves are very beautiful: large format, coated paper, color illustrations.

The book is set in a Swedish farm where Grandpa Petson and his cat, who can talk, live. Findus the cat celebrated his birthday three times a year. For this special occasion, a cake had to be baked. So this time, according to the custom, Patsy and Findus were going to bake a cake. However, things didn’t go as smoothly as they had hoped – they ran out of flour. They had to go to the store to get more, but the bike’s wheel was punctured, and they needed tools to fix it, but the shop door was locked and there was no key… So Grandpa and Findus have to make a lot of effort, show a lot of ingenuity to overcome many obstacles and have a lot of adventures to finally bake a cake and celebrate their birthday. But how will the neighbors in the village take it all…?

Extremely interesting, funny, with incredible, detailed illustrations, filled with exciting adventures of Grandpa Patsy and Findus the cat, the book will definitely appeal to everyone – both the youngest and older children, and adults will not remain indifferent.

The book will be interesting primarily for children, but also for adults who sometimes like to read funny children’s stories.

This time, however, something went wrong from the very beginning, because to get the flour in the attic, he had to find a ladder, and to find the ladder… In short, it was the beginning of a series of incredible adventures!

“Patsy, Findus and the Birthday Cake” is not only an interesting story, but also bright illustrations created by the author of the book. A real joy for kids, so I recommend it!
