Here is the review written by my godmother:
Tanya…. “I started reading the book you sent to my children, ‘The Twelve Troubles of Ostap Kvitochka’. They are sitting there listening, not even moving. I’m so engrossed in the book that I can’t wait to see what happens next.”
I want to note that the children do not speak Ukrainian-they are French, but they understand.

This is one of the funniest children’s books I’ve ever read, and perhaps the funniest in general.
Ostap Kvitochka bites (!) the midwife (he was born with teeth). For this, the midwife, Angela Jolivna, curses the baby. From that moment on, the troubles of Ostap and the devil Velzeper, who recorded this curse, begin.
Ostap has already grown up and comes to the village school to teach. He is an extraordinary optimist, despite all his adventures. So this book will help children to treat troubles and adversities more easily, and to smile, it is enough to remember Ostap, the groundhog’s hole and the werewolf; the mare and the word “Flower”; the calf, sour cream and baldness, and another hundred and twelve jokes from this book.
Oh, and my daughter and I laughed heartily. Such humor!
And in hell, the devil’s wanderings continue. There is also a love story for the devil, the fury Gorzulia, and the happy ending of the story.
I highly recommend reading it to both children and adults. It’s a very funny book.

Recently, my children (9 and 7 years old) and I read the series “Reading for Laughs” by Jeremy Strong. So, this subtle English humor, which makes you smile at most, was not even close to our Ukrainian humor, when you laugh your heart out, until your stomach cramps and the walls shake!
I bought this book without even reading the synopsis because I was convinced that it was wonderful! First of all, it’s a favorite of many, a cool and modern author. Secondly, one of the best publishing houses. And third, but no less important to me, Ostap is a beautiful sincere Ukrainian name (and it’s also my son’s name).
The story begins when we meet the main character, a nameless newborn baby, but already toothy (!) It was because of his teeth that he received the curse of the hundred misfortunes. Then the story takes us more than 20 years ahead, where the reader meets the adult Ostap Valeriyovych Kvitochka, a graduate of the pedagogical college and a future village teacher (though we never understood what subject) of a school that is not at all promising. Just on the way from the city to the village, he has a couple of eight misfortunes. It’s good that throughout his life, Ostap has gotten used to them and takes them with humor. I even set him up as an example for my daughter, because she often likes to “make a mountain out of a molehill” and blow a small problem into a big problem on a global scale.
But this “lucky” man was not the only one who had troubles. Somewhere in hell, an ordinary ordinary bastard, Velzeper, who has fixed the family curse, also got a whole bunch of problems on his head. By the way, this Welseperd, or rather Welsepook, well, in short, some kind of Wels… someone, is a separate storyline that my children did not really like, but any adult will be interested in. The hierarchy of hell with its devils, demons, devils and sinners will definitely remind us of our top authorities, or maybe the bottom?
There are so many troubles in this book that it will be enough for everyone, the main thing is to learn to perceive them correctly. And if you don’t know how or don’t want to, you will at least laugh your heart out, and laughter is known to improve mood and prolong life. I recommend it for ages 9+ and up to senile mental confusion.

Another unique work by Ukrainian children’s writer Sashko Dermansky. Why is it unique? Because there are few books about a young teacher who has so many adventures and troubles. Of all the books I know, there is only one. And it is “The Hundred and Twelve Misadventures of Ostap Kvitochka”. I am very pleased that the author has found a new vein, a topic for writing a book. After all, the associations that most people have when they think of the word teacher are as follows: an adult, strict aunt or uncle. And here is a completely different story, which explains that teachers are ordinary people who do not always have everything under control, have funny situations, and so on.
The book is wonderful. Indeed, because not every knight of the pen can combine two storylines so skillfully and successfully. The case of the marmot, the marshmallow, the test, and others are simply wonderful.
Reading the book brings only pleasure, relaxation, good mood, positive emotions and a sincere smile. And children will definitely like such books, because they are created for them. But an adult will definitely not get bored while reading, because he or she will definitely experience the flurry of emotions that reading this positive story conveys.
I can only give this book the highest rating, because I read such an interesting and exciting book in an evening, and it was as if I were an observer of those events.
I would also like to add that if you want to get your child interested in “making friends with paper friends,” you should choose books like this.

I bought this book for my daughter; at that time we were already familiar with three books by Sashko Dermansky. I knew that the author writes well and the child likes it. My daughter started reading by herself and she had a lot of questions about hell and the hierarchy there, so we started reading the book aloud to each other in the evenings.
And the book surprised me…. or rather, it conquered me! The book is absolutely suitable for both children and adults, the language in which the author writes is very soft and pleasant to read, and there are so many jokes that even after finishing the book, there is a feeling of warmth and smile in the heart)))
For some reason, while reading this book, I so vividly imagined all the characters and they were so colorful that I even regretted that there is no theatrical performance of this book, it would certainly be enchanting)))) The storyline is very interesting and cute, and the jokes are clear and funny, both for children and adults.
The main characters: the young teacher Ostap, who has always been catastrophically unlucky in life to the point of absurdity, and the underdog Velzeper. There are adventures, comedy and a little love here…. The book can make anyone laugh!
We can say with certainty that this is a family edition, it is impossible to consider this book only exclusively children’s literature. I have already read it three times, and my daughter has read it twice. I want to re-read it, I want to plunge into this world of goodness and laughter!
