Just don’t tell anyone about it

Synopsys by Irena Karpa
Margot has lived in Paris for a long time. She works as a photographer. She loves beautiful clothes, parties and sex clubs. In her native Kyiv, she has her grandfather, with whom she is on friendly terms, and the mysterious S., whom she convinces to move to Paris. She seems to have everything, but something inside her does not give her peace. She wants to understand herself and goes to a psychologist. The professor she works with recommends S. At the same time, Margot learns from the Internet about the Avenger, a serial killer who lynches rapists, corrupt officials, and other villains in her homeland. The journalist Sonic writes about all these cases, but does he know who is organizing these massacres? What is the cause of Margo’s anxiety? What shocking revelations does she have ahead of her? Why is she so fascinated by the story of the Avenger? And who is he, after all? This is a psychological thriller about things that are usually silenced, forgotten, and feared: domestic violence, rape, and bullying.

Well, I looked at this book in a completely different way. Not about feminism and not about sex. Yes, there are a lot of scenes about sex, but for me they are just so-so… About trauma. About violence. About the consequences. About mental problems and their solutions. About punishment… The only plus is that Paris is described beautifully). And it was also written many times how tasteless the coffee in Paris is. Would I like to read it again – no, would I recommend it to someone – so-so, for an amateur.

I really liked the story of the book. I read it very quickly. This book, for me personally, made me think about topics that are usually silenced. No wonder the book is called “Just Don’t Tell Anyone About It”. I recommend it for reading, you won’t regret it!!!!

It’s too hot. I went through several stages while reading:

    1. Admiration for the descriptions of France, its landscapes, beautiful streets, and easy writing style.

    2. Disgust. Some of the events in the book are too cruel, both physically and morally. Too many murders, too much porn, too many pedophiles. Yes, I read the book’s description before buying it, but I thought it would be easier. At this stage, I really wanted to finish reading, but I can never put a book down unfinished. If you have the same opinion in the middle of this detective-thriller, then finish the book to the end, there is a very unusual ending.

    3. The author has a great command of youth slang, is well versed in modern technologies, etc., but I want to read literature to take a break from all these Instagram “#metoo”, “soulmate”, “hype”, “lol”.

    4. Surprise at the end of the book.

    5. Joy that it’s over.

    6. And a rhetorical question: “Why did I waste my time?”

This book is perfect for those who will not be scared off by my review.

I would not recommend reading this book to impressionable people, people with a keen sense of justice, people who are undergoing sessions with a psychotherapist/psychologist, people who are under stress because of the war, etc.

I’m not a fan of Irena Karpa’s books, but after reading the announcements for this book, I was really looking forward to it. I bought it almost as soon as it went on sale on Yakaboo!

I’d like to say briefly that the book is extraordinary for a modern thriller. You can read it everywhere: in the subway, at home, on the road. I devoured this book in just 2 evenings after work.

The book tells the life of a non-trivial personality in the French capital, Paris. The girl works as a newborn photographer without enthusiasm, lives in her lover’s apartment and has a very specific nightlife.

The writer tells us about the lives of several people in turn, and we do not yet realize that an extraordinary explanation of the situation awaits us at the end.

In this story, there is an extremely clever killer, “The Avenger,” who takes revenge on famous people (who are actually criminals) for hurting little and/or young girls. Some of the stories are similar to current stories in the Ukrainian media.

I was also hooked by the story of the psychotherapist, where he immediately realized what the problem was with the main character, but did not say anything to her so that she could understand everything herself.

I highly recommend the book to all lovers of fiction!
