This time, the bad mood of the protagonist, third-grader Judy Moody, is due to the fact that she considers herself old enough to claim bigger pocketbooks, freedom from brushing her teeth, freedom from her younger brother, freedom from homework, the right to stay up late, the right to have sleepovers, and especially the opportunity to have her own bathroom… Judy was inspired by a trip to Boston, where she visited all the sights associated with the declaration of independence of the United States, and decided to draw up a declaration and make her dream of independence come true. But in order to get some freedoms, you still have to earn them, and most importantly, prove to your parents that you are really an adult and can be independent and responsible.
The book, like all the previous ones, is written with humor, but I found it a bit more complicated (for children’s understanding) because it contains a lot of information about the revolution in the United States for the declaration of independence from the British crown, about American political figures, revolutionary heroes, etc., which the Ukrainian young reader, if familiar with it, is very superficial.

An incredibly funny, interesting and cheerful series of books about an American girl, third-grader Judy Moody, written by a contemporary American children’s writer Megan McDonald.
At the moment, this series includes eight books so far, which can be read in any order, because each book has certain adventures that are not related to each other.
This book is the sixth volume and is called “Judy Moody Declares Independence”. The theme of this volume is very relevant for primary school children, because at this age children try to be independent and they begin to dislike the fact that their parents constantly set certain rules for their behavior, their daily routine, etc. So Judy Moody wrote a declaration of independence with her own hand, in which she wrote that she would do everything on her own, without any instructions. Frankly speaking, as a mother, I was very upset by this development of the storyline at first, but after reading a little further, I learned that Judy Moody still kept order, followed the daily routine clearly, but without reminders and did everything with pleasure and quality, so I think Judy sets a very good example of exemplary behavior for young readers.
The book is just perfect for independent reading, because the text is printed in large print, accompanied by black and white illustrations, and the adventures of Judy Moody will interest not only girls but also boys.
