An interesting book and an interesting idea from an equally interesting writer Valentin Berdt. I read this book in 2 days. It was because I was sad in the hospital and decided to go out and buy some new books for my so-called library. This book has a relatively cheap price and at the same time an interesting story.
So, Valentin Berdt tells us about a teenage boy, Serhiy, who lives in the city and is used to the urban realities. But then his parents decided to send him to his grandmother in the countryside. Of course, the boy did not want to go to the village at first, but he had no choice. He easily made friends with his peers and even fell in love with a girl named Oksana. And now teenagers have such a distinctive feature that they easily find adventures on their (sorry) ass. While reading the book, you feel as if you are friends with the characters and can entrust them with your secrets and experiences, which is very cool. I would like to thank Valentyn Berdt and the Old Lion Publishing House for this cool book and definitely recommend it to middle school children. After all, all adventures only begin at thirteen!

Valentin Berdt’s book tells about the lives of Ukrainian children who find themselves in the same place in the summer. They all visit their grandparents and somehow become friends.
Serge is a boy who is crazy about computers and everything that can be connected with them. Until recently he did not understand a lot of them, but soon with Andrew, his best friend, developed his skills to very, very decent.
Oleg is a bit of a proud and self-confident boy, who obviously likes to be “macho”. It’s him who has charmed Oksana, the girl Serge likes, and moreover, started something like a relationship with her.
There’s also Dima who likes to study strange books and Oksana herself, a girl from Kiev who likes to be listened to and paid attention to.
The book is funny, really childish and sometimes funny, gives the mood and different emotions. Yes,the plot is weak, but only those who are not 9-12 years old would think so. There are interesting events, intrigue, and a lot of realities of children’s lives. This is a school, unrequited love, an invisible feud between children for the recognition of someone else.
Valentin Berdt was able to fit into the book everything that might appeal to children, and it’s very good, because of this book is able to interest his audience. Unfortunately,I have already had time to read many other books,so this one did not bring me any “capture”,but I’m sure that it has fans)

When you, a lover of programming and computers, are sent to a remote village for the summer, it is unlikely that you will feel as enthusiastic as your parents. Serhiy did not feel that way, but rather treated this trip as a real exile and complete isolation from all modern amenities. It seems that three whole boring months of rural work are ahead. But this is only at first glance. As soon as the guys arrive in the village of Lishchynivka, adventures are not long in coming. First, Serhii and Oleh organize extreme scooter rides on a broken country road for a pretty stranger, and then they form a small group of friends with her and Dmytro, a lover of history and ancient languages. The pretty stranger’s name is Oksana, and one evening she tells the boys an old village legend. Out of curiosity and fun, they decide to test it. The essence of it is to drive a cross on a certain grave in a neighboring cemetery, and Serhii volunteers. And after that night, not only their summer, but their lives change dramatically. Serhiy is haunted by terrifying dreams and visions, and the old rusty cross and the help of a girl from the other side open the way to an amazing computer program that can change the course of events
A few years ago, when I first read this book, I was deeply impressed. The eerie events, witches, mysterious rituals, and visions were all so interesting and fascinating that page after page the book melted in my hands. Even now I remember this story with warmth. It is one of the best representatives of contemporary Ukrainian teen literature. Interesting characters, a fascinating plot, and good always triumphing over evil.

Bought this book with great excitement. I love summer stories where teenagers grow up and their outlook on the world matures. There is always something subtly nostalgic about such stories, as if it has happened to you once before (in fact, it has).
Examples of such stories are “Dandelion Wine,” which I adore, and also “Catcher in the Rye.”
I expected the same from “It all starts at 13″…and I didn’t get it.
The title itself – All Begins at 13 – is insanely romantic, and it feels like you’re about to be swept into a whirlpool of memories, but something is missing from this book.
The first love seems to be there, but it doesn’t catch on from the word “at all.” Jealousy, new acquaintances, friendship – somehow flat, the characters do not empathize. One of the main characters – Oksana – did not like her tossing and turning between the boys.
My favorite part of the book, where it was interesting and even a little scary, was where they were preparing for a night trip to the cemetery. It was even a little scary (and I was also reading at night), great writing)
I really love books about- and for- teenagers. In fact, you can get a lot of life wisdom out of them. But from this book, it didn’t. Just an easy one-liner story.

It all starts at 13. Isn’t that right? After all, this is the age when we are constantly missing something and start to get addicted to social media. It would seem that the long-awaited summer season has finally arrived, and there is still plenty of time to hang out on the Internet. But not for Sergiy, a young boy. His parents sent him to the countryside for so long! And there is no internet, no entertainment, no favorite games! So what can you do here? There is no point in resisting. The grandparents are already looking forward to seeing their favorite grandson. But who would have thought that events would develop like this! Another group of teenage boys arrive in the village. Very soon they will have an interesting acquaintance. But there were not only boys in the group. Oksana from Kyiv arrived in all her glory to Lishchynivka, and she was not an easy girl to win over. Especially since not only our protagonist Serhiy claimed her heart. Frankly speaking, I found it very interesting to read about their special moments in love. I could feel their every look very easily, and I would love to read more about their love story. And Serhiy not only managed to win the heart of the unconquerable Oksana, but also easily made friends with the other boys. Teenagers are teenagers to invent all sorts of adventures for themselves, to look for something incomprehensible, to be scared and pretend to be brave, their unbearable desire to “get in” somewhere has not changed for years. I liked the way the author described it all. In addition, Valentyn Berdt noticeably tried to add youth slang, which you will get acquainted with while reading. In addition, the village of Lishchynivka had many legends, which our children openly tried to learn from their elders. Night races, all sorts of scary stories, unexpected love, and true friendship await you in the book. In addition, I really liked the fact that Valentin Berdt, the author of the book, tried his best to prove that a three-month vacation can be easily spent without the sea, vacationing on islands or expensive hotels. On the contrary, he wanted to prove that happiness lies in simple things. In my grandmother’s freshly baked pastries, in interesting stories with friends, in love stories.
However, I do have one criticism of the book. Despite the fact that the idea of the story is of a high level, the characters are chosen very well, there is one “but”. For example, I would not have chosen to describe such mystical stories with children. From the outside, it doesn’t look very much like reality. Otherwise, for most of the book, I had to come across some “horror stories” and was horrified by those fictional stories myself. Moreover, this story is for teenagers, and the book will be read by children aged 12 to 14. So in some places it was really scary, uncomfortable, and in some places I wanted to turn the page faster or leave the story. In my opinion, it would be possible to take into account some other legend of Lishchynivka and describe it differently. But this is just my opinion. Still, the idea is interesting, so the book is worth reading.
