The first book of the Dzhury tetralogy, Dzhury of Cossack Shvaika, takes the reader back to the distant days of Ukrainian statehood, the days of freedom, romanticism, and vast expanses of untouched nature.
The book is intended for children and teenagers, and that is why its main characters are teenage boys who, like all young men of their age, strive to explore the unknown, feel the spirit of adventure and become real Cossacks, who are their idols.
The choice of the main characters’ names seems somewhat strange. While Hrytsyk is a fairly common male name in Ukraine, the name Sashko seems to be a kind of guest from the future.
The protagonists are not ordinary guys: they have supernatural powers, but to use supernatural powers, they have to go through a long way of learning and working on themselves: physical and moral development.
The book is written in an easy, lively language, and the stunning adventures of the young men who became Cossack jura are as fascinating as the adventures of the famous Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. That is why, despite its considerable length – more than 400 pages – the story is read in one breath.
This work is a good way to introduce children to reading books.

I recently became a Dad – I had a Son and a Daughter – Twins! I bought all four books by Jura (Cossack Seamstress, The Character, The Submarine, and Shaggy) for my children. I’m waiting for them to grow up so we can read them together. I believe that our children should read in Ukrainian and know the history of their people and the origins of their family!
The books are beautifully designed and well made. These are books for Our Children – Ukrainians! They are the future of Our Motherland Ukraine!
“I also bought additional books by Volodymyr Rutkivsky – Blue Waters and Watchtower… I think I will collect all the works of this Author. Many thanks to him!
So far, I have tried to read it myself – it is written interestingly, lively, clear, fascinating…
In addition, I recently watched the movie “The Stronghold” produced in Ukraine. I will say – it is worth watching! It may not be Hollywood, but it’s no longer a second-rate comedy promoted by all the media.
I think it’s time to make high-quality historical and adventure Ukrainian movies!
I want to convey to people that Ukrainian is Ours!
This is the best.
Let’s be Ukrainians with a capital “U”!

We read the books of the trilogy in the evening, with the family “and. To say I like it is to say nothing. The books are exciting. Events happen quickly, without unnecessary “chewing”, the impression of a spiral. The description of nature, events, characters are conveyed so perfectly, that it was not a book you read, and watch the movie. The Ukrainians are described with such love and enthusiasm that I am even filled with pride for my people. It’s been a long time since I read a children’s book with such enthusiasm. I’m sure if we read these kinds of works to our children, we have a future.
My 12-year-old son read the first part “in one breath” and this is what he asked to write. The Cossack Shil’s Jura is about two boys, Sasha and Gricik, who constantly get caught up in some kind of story. I liked the fact that the friends always want to accomplish some kind of victory: then to fight with werewolves, then to make fun of the lord for taking all the property from the peasants. I really enjoyed this work for the heroism of the main characters. The book is written very dynamically, with talent. Modern, lively Ukrainian language. The book captures the children so much that they read it the way we once read Jules Verne – without tearing off, forgetting to eat and sleep.

The book is very interesting and easy to read. My daughter read it with great pleasure, which is very rare for eleven-year-olds today. I recommend it to everyone.
