A fascinating book for middle school age teens about the adventures of two cronies Pavlusha and Java.
At the beginning of the book we get acquainted with the children of the fifth grade. They have a lot of ideas and excitement, which is enough for a dozen children. Games of spies, Robinson Corn, apparently after studying the work in school, and lots of other fun.
Here we are in sixth grade and new adventures. Friends went to Pavlusha aunt in Kiev and plunged into new twists and turns. They searched for a man, managed to be in the movie “Artem” and with new ideas began the school year as seventh graders.
Again the summer vacation, new adventures and first love. A quarrel over a girl. A mysterious GPO, but Java was not “timid” and took up this mysterious case.
The author is very touching about the courage of his friends: Yava was not afraid to get together in the middle of the night and call for help from the military, and then he himself contributed enough to save his village. Also, Vsevolod Zinovievich glorifies true faithful friendship, because in spite of disagreements and quarrels, it is Pavlusha who comes to the aid of his friend to save the letters of Mokrina’s husband, who died in the war.
Thanks to a coincidence, the friends reconcile again and overcome a lot of circumstances.
The synopsis of the book stated that Vsevolod Nestaiko adapted the book for the present.
I’d like to know what happened to the heroes of the book: how these boys and girls became in adulthood, and whether they met their teacher Galina Sidorovna in later life?
A handbook for teenagers about true friendship, endurance, loyalty and international friendship.

I got to know this book, as well as the author, a long time ago. It was at school during a Ukrainian literature class. I don’t remember if this work was part of the school curriculum or if it was just for extracurricular reading, but the fact is that I read it at school.
⠀
As I remember now, the teacher gave everyone a book and we took turns reading a couple of pages aloud in front of the whole class. I remember our emotions and sincere laughter, because it was simply impossible not to laugh at the humor of the bullfighters.
⠀
The book is very funny, fun, full of adventures and true friendship. It also has an incredible flavor of the Ukrainian village.
⠀
The story takes place in the village of Vasyukivka. The main characters are two inseparable friends, Yava and Pavlusha. And these two are always inventing adventures for themselves on their fifth point.
⠀
So they decided to play Robinson Crusoe and ran away from home to a desert island. Actually, it’s not so deserted because it’s right next to the village, on the river.
After watching programs on TV, they decide to become matadors. They don’t have a bull, but they do have a cow. And instead of a red cloak, an old red rug with three puppies on it will do just fine.
They will also rescue a dog from a well, steal watermelons from an angry grandfather, and even fail a test at school.
⠀
I take off my hat to the author. He is a genius of our time to have written such a wonderful work. I sincerely recommend it. Both children and adults will like it.

This book is a true masterpiece of children’s literature. The only thing to consider, in my opinion, is the age at which a child should be introduced to this book. It is incredibly funny and entertaining, but it is not intended for toddlers or even elementary school children. Attempts to give it to children in 3rd and 4th grade resulted in children asking too many questions about what this or that word means. This work is part of the 7th grade Ukrainian literature curriculum, and it will be really both interesting and understandable to 7th graders, they already have a fairly extensive vocabulary (compared to younger students) and a broad outlook. At this age and beyond, you can really enjoy the book.
So, this is a trilogy about the adventures of two mischievous and extremely restless boys-adventurers Java and Pavlusha. Summer vacation for them is a time of fun and adventure, which they find every day. In the first story, they have fun in their home village: getting lost in a cornfield, building a tent on an island in the middle of a river trying to live as savages. In the second story, the boys end up in Kiev, starring in a movie and even coming into contact with the mystery of the past. In the third story, Java and Pavlusha quarrel, but a common problem – a flood in the village – unites the boys, and they rush to the aid of their fellow villagers.
A wonderful trilogy, exciting and fun.

I read this book back in high school, and I really liked it, and recently I came across it again and decided to remember my childhood a little bit.
The book captivates from the first pages, as it is a children’s book, so the language is simple, so the book is easy to read. By the way, this work has been translated into more than 20 languages.
The book tells the story of two schoolchildren – Pavlusha and Yava – and their adventures, as well as their great desire to become famous all over the world.
Vsevolod Nestayko was able to create quite lively and positive characters whose antics were interesting to watch, and their ingenuity was fascinating, and in general, while reading the book, I had a smile on my face. The author has portrayed the characters of the main characters very well, showing how different they are, for example, Pavlusha is quite quiet and calm, but Java is restless.
“The Bullfighters of Vasyukivka is a work about friendship, love and kindness, a work that brings you back to a carefree childhood.
It seems to me that the book will be interesting to everyone without exception – both children and adults.
My rating for the book is definitely 10/10.
Enjoy your reading)

It’s true what people say, take a book and it will help you in a difficult moment. This incredible book helped me and my child to survive difficult times in the hospital, lifted our spirits while fighting the disease, made us laugh instead of crying, and forget about the troubles. To experience their funny adventures together with the characters. I am very grateful to the great talented writer Vsevolod Nestayko for such a masterpiece. Indeed, this incredible book is for all time. Time passes quickly, and you don’t even notice it, because you are plunged into various adventures with the characters – mischievous people. The funny drawings involuntarily make you smile and charge you with positive emotions. At first glance, it seems that there are too many pages in the book, and you will not read it, but in fact, while reading, I wanted to keep on reading with the characters from Vasyukivka. When everything seems to be in gray tones, take the time to read even a few parts of the novel, relax your soul, and get a charge of positive emotions. Thanks to the Yakabu store for the unsurpassed book “The Toreadors of Vasyukivka”, an opportunity to have it in my library. At the end of the trilogy there is a small surprise, a crossword puzzle for readers.
