Anne of Green Gables. Book 1

This wonderful book is set in faraway Canada, on Prince Edward Island. An elderly brother and sister, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, live on the Green Roof Farm. One day, they decided to take a boy from an orphanage to help them with their farm. However, their surprise was overwhelming when it turned out that instead of a boy, they received a red-haired, skinny girl, Anne Shirley. And this unusual creature had a surprisingly quirky disposition!

    Anne

In general, I’m not a fan of book series. But the story of Little Red Riding Hood fascinated me so much that for several years now this book has remained my favorite. I have read it many times. This story is very inspiring. How can you not love Anne Shirley? She is such an interesting child, funny. And how she knows how to dream magnificently! Her imagination is so rich that as a girl from an orphanage and very poorly dressed, she imagines a dress with puffy sleeves, a hat with a wide brim and luxurious flowers on her head. And it’s so real, as if Anne were actually wearing all that.

It should be noted that Anne Shirley has a remarkable talent for getting into non-standard and not very comfortable situations. It’s just the way she was born, there’s nothing you can do about it. But she manages to get out of it well. That’s another talent!

The translation of the book by the Urbino publishing house is very good. I found only one mistake in the whole book: a sentence started with a lowercase letter after a period. But it’s nothing, you’ll agree. The cover is so delicate, made in bright and pleasing colors. And the pages of the book are very thick and the font is pleasant to read.

I definitely recommend reading this book!

“Anne of Green Gables is an extraordinary story about a dreamy girl that will not leave anyone indifferent. I am very glad that in my childhood I had the opportunity to read not only Anne of Green Gables, but also five other books that are a continuation of this fascinating story and introduce the reader to the further fate of my favorite heroine.

I first read this book when I was eleven years old, just like Anne herself. The story of the adventures of the red-haired girl impressed me so much that I could not put the book down.

This story is a bit like Pollyanna’s. Anne, like Pollyanna, was left without parents at an early age. Both girls teach the reader not to dwell on problems, but to get the best out of life, but each heroine has her own methods of achieving happiness: Polianna plays for joy, and Anne fills her life with bright colors, thanks to her ability to dream and thus turn everyday existence into a fairy-tale world where elves, fairies and possible mad love live.

Could Marila and Matthew, who dreamed of adopting a boy, have ever imagined that a girl would be a much better option for them and could change their lives for the better? And could Ann herself have thought that the one she had considered her enemy since high school would later become her best friend?

I recommend everyone to read this wonderful story about a sunny girl who will teach you to dream and believe in miracles. I am convinced that this book simply cannot fail to interest and touch the reader.

What can I say – Ann is my new love! Why didn’t I have these books when I was a kid? I probably would have read them through by now!

Cuthbert’s not-so-young brother and sister are about to take a boy from the orphanage who could be their farm helper. But by happy (or not so happy?) coincidence, 8-year-old Ann Shirley arrives at Green Roofs Farm instead of the boy.

This red-haired little girl is a real miracle! She is sweet, very kind and dreamy, and irrepressible imagination just spurts out of her! Yes, and adventures find her as if by themselves. That she comes up with ghosts and then afraid to go into the woods, then noticed and forgot to take the pie out of the oven on time, then accidentally drunk her best friend with liquor. In general, you will not get bored with Ann!

This book is very kind and cozy! I had a lot of fun reading it. Kind and bright emotions are guaranteed! It will not only remind you of cute childhood games and hobbies, but also provide topics for reflection – about justice, about kindness, about honor, about family values. In general, read – and you will not regret it!

Separately, I want to mention a gorgeous edition of the entire series of books about Ann Shirley from Urbino Publishers – they will be a decoration of any girl’s bookshelf!

I recently read the book Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Mothgomery and would like to share my impressions. I hadn’t read this writer’s works before, so I didn’t know what to expect from them… I started with the first part of the series about the girl Anne… From the very beginning I realized that the main character reminded me of Pollyanna. Anne is just as restless, cheerful, interested in everything around her, can find joy even in sad things and events… Let me tell you briefly about the plot of the book: Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert are brother and sister who live on an island in Canada and have their own farm. One day they decide to take a boy helper from an orphanage. Imagine their surprise when a girl came to them. At first, the brother and sister wanted to send her home, but then they realized that they would be sad without the girl. Ann was very happy to stay in the Green Roofs. Soon she finds a friend, Diana, and goes to school… Many adventures and surprises await her there. Anne studies at school very hard, and her teachers say that she is the best student. Time passes. Ann is no longer a child, she is 15 years old. Having passed all her exams successfully, she is going to go to a teacher’s seminary. But then something happens and all plans are canceled… I won’t tell you all the details to make it more interesting for you to read. I definitely recommend it!

Very kind and positive book, written with a light syllable with a fair amount of humor. I bought it as a gift for my daughter and gladly read it myself, and then read the continuation of the series (my daughter will eventually have a wonderful journey with an adult heroine). The Ukrainian translation is excellent. The most valuable thing about this book is that it teaches that good deeds will always be rewarded, the book encourages politeness and respect for others, and also shows how wonderful the world is for those who do not limit their own imagination. The author’s ability to describe Canada’s nature in a few sentences in such a way that the picture itself rises before the eyes and the desire arises to see these beauties is a particular source of respect. The world through Ann’s eyes looks like a magical fairy tale, every day of life which promises a lot of adventures and pleasant events. Even in the saddest situations, the heroine finds a seed of goodness, which grows into a beautiful flower of optimistic view of people and events. After reading the book remains a unique taste of good mood, as the author invariably completes each storyline told with a positive ending.
